Joe McGinn

This award is given to the individual who typifies the spirit, courage and heart of the person the honor is
named after.  Joe McGinn lived his 26 years under the shadow of a debilitating disease that robbed his
ability to be the athlete he so badly wanted to be. However, his fight, his ability to overcome great
adversity and his unwavering spirit inspired all of the athletes he befriended in his life.  From the
public address announcer at Muzzy Field to the manager of the UCONN basketball program, Joe’s legacy is
secure across the state of Connecticut with everyone he touched.

A supremely funny, witty, likeable guy, Joe was a hero to his friends and family for refusing to ask for
anything but to be treated like everyone else……even though in so many ways he was so much better.
