Bristol Sports Hall of Fame History:

The Bristol Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1997 to provide Bristol with a more permanent housing of Bristol's rich sports history and to open the door to the public in helping select the individuals who will be honored as Hall of Fame inductees. There have been five inductions ceremonies to date.

The annual Hall of Fame induction program takes place on the Friday evening preceding Thanksgiving and to date, there are 41 individuals inducted into the Hall of Fame. The plaques are on display at the Malone Aquatic Center in the Giamatti Little League complex on Mix Street.

In May 1999, the Hall of Fame held its first annual Scholar/Athlete program, where three adult leaders of the community and the top student-athletes at Bristol's three high schools, Bristol Central, Bristol Eastern and St. Paul Catholic, are recognized. Hundreds of students have been honored for their combined athletic and academic scholastic achievements through this program to date.

The Hall of Fame co-sponsors the annual Hershey Track Meet, sharing the responsibilities of the event with the Bristol Board of Education and Bristol Parks & Recreation Department. Approximately 600 kids participate annually and some have gone to the nationals.

A Year 2000 Bristol Sports Calendar was published by the Hall of Fame to commemorate and showcase Bristol's past century of sports and it covered aspects of Bristol's sports during this span of time.

Previous to this, a CD-Rom, depicting the Hall of Fame and its first inductees, was produced and it remains available for sale to the public.

The Bristol Sports Hall of Fame is also active with the annual Mum Fest in September/October and the Children's Holiday Parade in December.

A Bristol Sport Hall of Fame location has been opened and will be as such for special programs. Pictures, memorabilia and information are housed at these headquarters to share with the public free of charge.

BSHF Location

The BSHF location at the Bristol Centre Mall will be open Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. during the month of May. Those who do not want to donate a specific picture but want the Hall of Fame to have a copy, can bring the original in and have it scanned while taking it back home that night.

Visitors are always welcome free of charge. Stop by and see our displays of Bristol's best.

Nominees for 2002 Induction Program:

The BSHF is also looking for names of individuals to consider for induction either on November 15th of this year or in future years. Both former and current Bristol residents with names can visit the location and provide the BSHF directors/officers on duty with them. Or, mail them to: BSHF Selection Committee P.O. Box 2954, Bristol, CT 06011-2954. Or (soleful@aol.com) Please include the nominees address or any other way to contact them, if possible. If the nominee is deceased, please try to provide information to contact a family member.

To qualify as a nominee, an individual should have a strong connection to Bristol and sports in one form or another. A nominee can be a Bristol native who has remained here or moved away or someone who was born elsewhere but later resided here. Also, a person's accomplishments can be those made either in or outside of Bristol, or both. The Selection Committee of the BSHF examines resumes of individuals in all aspects of sports.
