George R. ‘Dick’ Redman

George R. “Dick” Redman first made a name for himself as a multiple-sports athlete at Bristol High School in the early 1940’s. He played baseball and basketball and split his time between soccer and football. He led the 1942 football team to a league crown and was the league leader in points scored that year. He sported a 10-2 pitching record during the 1942-43 baseball seasons and led Bristol to the league crown in 1943.

He played three seasons in the St. Louis Cardinals farm system from 1943 through 1945. He had an 8-5 pitching mark and a .295 batting average for the Cards Johnson City, Tennessee affiliate in 1944. He later played for a number of area baseball teams in the 1940’s and 1950’s including the Bristol Bees and the Bristol Elites.
