Purdue was a national powerhouse in the late 1920’s to early with Murphy who in 1942 was voted starting center on the all-time college basketball team.  Won high school championship; won several championships in New England and down south as a member of Boys Club volleyball team.

Between 1938 and 1950 he was executive director of Bristol Boys Club.  He was a popular leader who gave people (kids) like Norm Beland who later became director of the club.  He put aside his love of basketball to direct his attention to the Boys Club.
